Veteran actress Aruna Irani, renowned for her memorable performances in Hindi films like Beta and television, recently disclosed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. In an honest conversation, she spoke about her personal struggle, including how she came to know about the lump. Although doctors recommended chemotherapy, she chose not to go through with it. Here’s what she revealed during the interview.

In a conversation with Lehren, Aruna Irani recalled the moment she first sensed something was wrong while on a film shoot. She shared that she had a gut feeling and mentioned it to those around her, saying, “Mujhe kuch lag raha hai.” Upon consulting a doctor, she was initially told it was just a small lump, but she insisted on having it removed immediately. Though she was advised to undergo chemotherapy, she declined, opting instead for oral medication as she was actively working at the time. 

Aruna Irani’s cancer returned

Unfortunately, the cancer returned in March 2020. This time, Irani chose to follow the full course of treatment. She admitted, “It was my mistake for not taking chemotherapy the first time,” but added that she underwent the recommended therapy during her second diagnosis. She noted that chemotherapy had improved by then and while she did lose some hair, it grew back quickly.

Other health issues and how she is doing now

In addition to battling cancer, Aruna Irani has faced other health challenges, including being diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 60. She also experienced a serious health scare when doctors mistakenly told her both her kidneys had failed. Thankfully, she did not require major treatment and is currently in good health.

Aruna Irani is a renowned Indian actress who has appeared in over 500 films across Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, and Gujarati cinema, primarily in supporting and character roles. She has won two Filmfare Awards for Best Supporting Actress for her performances in Pet Pyaar Aur Paap and Beta. Irani began her career as a child artist in Ganga Jumna, portraying the younger version of Azra’s character. She later played Mala Sinha’s childhood role in Anpadh, followed by minor roles in films like Jahanara, Farz, Upkar, and others.
